I got stuck last year. Spent 2 days chopping ice to make it across the lake....soon as I did the channel closed behind me and I was stuck no where near my camp lol

My favorite time of day on the lake is pre-dawn w/a little fog.

Cool pics - looks like a good time. I just re-upped on sunscreen but need to look into some specific sun protection clothing - got fried last week in the good weather we had.

Had two friends have strokes and one a heart attack in the past year. All were active and made good recoveries. I want to push some of my old limits kayaking this season and that got me thinking that slumping over in my kayak and drowning while solo would suck so I'm going to try and wear a PFD from now on. I'd prob still die being solo but hopefully they will find the body before the fish get to me. I never wore my old PFD because it was uncomfortable and my ego was tarded. When I bought it 20+ years ago I thought I was indestructible and got it just to comply with laws so comfort was never a consideration.

I stopped at a local marina on my way home and test fit some. Ended up grabbing a NRS Chinook fishing vest that has a high back so it won't interfere with my seat. Ill prob never fish in it, but wanted the pockets for my other safety equipment. Weirdest life jacket Ive ever put on due to the high back but I just sat in my yak and it's a perfect fit so who cares how goofy it looks. Here's to a safe 2019 boating season.

I got that same exact life vest. I wear it when on the main lake paddling. Once I am back into some creeks or coves to fish I take it off and drape it over the back of my seat.

I think some rescue dye packs were donated to the troop for their rummage sale, any interest in any?

I just got a new one in large pill form off Amazon because my old stuff that was in a thick bag somehow got wet. Stuffs expensive

Sold my kayak after a few trips out since the seat was very uncomfortable. Made about $100 on the sell so that was good.
Did a lot of research and settled on a Jackson Liska to replace it. Way more stable and able to stand in it, more room, and 100x better seat. Picked it up today as a birthday present of sorts and taking it out this weekend.

so envious of those seats. That kind of seat is a total game changer for kayakers.

You are not kidding. I fished about 6 hours yesterday and could have fished longer.
Already planning when I can get it back on the water.

I need to take a break every hour with my crappy "Zone" seats and sometimes there aren't any beach areas so I'm stuck in pain until a good beach comes up.

Shopping for a new sit in sea kayak now and #1 on my list is comfort. Been kayaking 20+ years and never bought one I can turn my feet up to a comfortable position in. No way can I spend 6+ hrs at sea in a uncomfortable kayak and my plan is to dip my toes into some mild sea kayaking this season.

I have been very impressed with my Jackson so far. "Check them out. I did a ton of research and settled on Jackson and a big part was everything I read and saw was how comfortable their seats are. Also a local shop here near me carriers them and have been awesome to deal with. Would rather buy from them instead of REI

I wish I could go sit on top, but I enjoy the winter activities too much to do that. I want to take some real trips when it is sub zero this winter, not just play around in lake ice 100 yards from a stoked fire.

My buddy has a Wilderness 17' Tempest he wants to get rid of cheap but I'm thinking of avoiding the plastic yaks for this boat. Been beating them up for decades in rivers but looking for something more refined and lighter so maybe carbon or fiberglass. I do not want to exceed 55# and that's a hard task for a boat over 16'.

What is the transport weight with any of your added accessories, like when unloading from the 4R?

The yak and seat are 84 pounds.
I dont load it with accessories. Once it's off I add the anchor, milk crate, tackle and soft cooler.
