I want to work with my dog to know to sit before walking across a street. How did you train TJ at behavior?
Started small chicken bits - visual commands - then an e-collar. Now just hand signals. I hated to get an e-collar but it worked for the rattlesnake training and when she chased a skunk - I knew I had to train her to avoid them. Took 1 night to have her laying down when she would see one. We have LOTs of skunks in our park - counted 14 one night so we have a lot of targets.

I have tried a number of collars and the one I like the most is the Educator.

The skill I am most proud of is the STOP command as it is the one that I am convinced might save her life. I know people might not like the idea and I might get fined someday but we walk her every day with the e-collar and 8-12 mile walks with her on weekends. I must say, people are very impressed - including the cops we walk by. :)

Wife made a vet appointment for our old dog today. I went with her and drove the Taco so we didn't have a shitload of fur in the her ride. Anyhow, it was just a checkup and shots. We waited outside, they called and had just all kinds of bad news. Basically wanted to put him down. Fuck that... I had just fed him 45 minutes earlier and watched him run his happy ass around the house to the garage and his food bowl. So yeah, he has bad gum disease, his kidneys are failing, and they could not hear his heart.. but he is not being put down. Old guy had an awesome time riding in the bed of the truck (Taco) and he is out hanging out with me now in the garage. So I know his time is coming, all of ours is, but he is gonna make it to 2021. He is not that bad. Seriously upset me when I saw the look on the wifes face after the call. I know the vet is looking out for the pet, and maybe I am being selfish, but I don't think so.
That day will break my heart. When I get like that, I've told my lady to drop me off at my Happy Spot with some food and water and let me pass. I think you are letting your doggie do the same.

This is my boy Bo. He was rescued from a ranch south of Austin. Apparently he was on the property along with four horses who were all starving. A neighbor turned them in and when the sheriff came to collect them, Bo ran off. He was on his own for 2 weeks before a neighbor found him starving, full of porcupine quills and nearly dead under a tree.

He's a one in a million dog who absolutely loves people. He now has 2 temperpedic + 3 dog beds around the house. We pamper him because he's served his time in hell already and deserves the best life we can give him. We guess he's about 3 years old at this point.

He's also a pretty great trail and ranch dog from what I've seen so far.

Ours was thought to be living in the wild for 6 to 9 months according to the vet tagging his matting. Would run away and you wouldn't catch her for an hour. Wouldn't look in our eyes for about a year. She also volunteers at our local dementia center. I keep thinking they'll give me admittance if they like my dog.

She is a great pup and would be welcome in my home any time.

Thanks brother. I have to say, I hear that from a lot of people. When we went to NYC last year on 9-11 I felt like I was auctioning off a celebrity. I thought we were going to board her but no chance.

Just 2 days ago, a client pulled me aside and said, "I miss my dog. If you ever go out of town, let me keep her."

I can see that being the case. Inside the first day she had Megan wrapped around her paw. She was a fun addition to the trip checking on all of us at the stops.
