Ok, so the dealerships will obviously sell you an extended warranty at a premium. But I have "heard" its better to buy one (if you want one) afterwards and you can save big bucks. So.. anyone have any first hand experience doing this? Any recommendations or companies to stay away from?

All I know is that I get phone calls and mail from some that try to disguise themselves as the dealer or something legit. IMHO I would pass on the extended warranty if it was more than $1500. The likely hood of the warranty paying for itself is slim. Its like going to a casino. More loose than win.

From what I know, get on a Ford forum and they will be able to provide you the best Ford dealer to buy it from, and iirc only buy the extended warranty from the ford dealer.

I rarely buy extended warranties, bought one on the LX for $3,500 though, but from my knowledge that pertains to the Lost Sheep Build (15 years of listening to business radio) never buy an extended warranty until your close to the 36k miles or 3 year mark.

I found an 8 year 100k mile one for about $2800. Got good reviews.. who knows how many are real. But of that 8 years, 3 are covered by Ford. So not needed for that timeframe. I am thinking its just best to wait 35 months and see how it goes and add one if needed. I got one on the Taco and never needed it.. and when I would have they would not have covered anything anyhow.

I had a timeshare place call me the other day. I played along for a min and asked him what his favorite location was and then asked if I can bring my dog.
Sir, pets are not allowed
But I am blind and this is my seeing eye dog
Im sorry sir but no pets are allowed at the resort
So you are discriminating my disability?
Uhhhh, sir....Im not sure what you mean
My dog, I need her to get around and is allowed anywhere with me, even planes.
But dogs and pets are prohibited
Call me when I can bring my dog, good bye

Hey so have you had any issues with your truck? My only thought on getting one is that this thing is not cheap.. and repairs are the same. So I am "thinking" (scary I know) that its not needed. Just asking questions.

I bought one for the Civic But it was a la carte style. Only bought the part that covered the electronics because the new vehicles with all their cameras, sensors, computers etc scare me. Plus it was pro rated. So I can get out of it at any time and get back the money for whatever part of the mileage I havent used (minus $100 cancellation fee).

This one was pro-rated as well. I'm sure the dealer will try to sell me one. I'll get his price.. but not buying it.

Dude I bought an XL simply because of what Blake just said. I don’t need/want electric issues now or down the road. Any electric shit I add myself has I find a need/want. I have electric windows (wanted crank) and cruise control, that it.

I know people are having issues with that silly moon roof (if they actually use it), and there are issues with cameras etc on them. Electric issues are not brand specific, and Ford seems to have less then the rest. I had a few TSB issues done on it, but other then my front cover weeping (at dealer right now, under warranty) I have not had anything major. I had an issue that Ford wouldn’t cover on the paint. It was sprayed real thin on the hood where SD is stamped in, but the dealership painted it for free twice (manager said he didn’t think it was good enough for me the first time). They did a fix (TSB)on the engine block heater (I don’t even know wtf the plug is, who needs it in Texas) and they did one for the “death wobble” that I never had, but they replaced some bushings stuff anyway.
But overall I have had zero issues with the truck, I just wished I’d gotten into one sooner.

If buy extended, only buy the Ford extended one, not any 3rd party one.

The 4x4 works great, little bit of front end pop backing up/ turning and making tight turns, but that's normal. Locker is nice to have, and low range is beast mode for sure. I really like the engine brake too. I don't have hill descent or any of that shit, but I don't think I'm missing anything.

I got the locker.. so that is good. I read to use the engine brake as well.

I got the extended warranty on my 16. Truck only had 1 more year of bumper to bumper. Too many electrical doodads in the Laramie and FCA is not exactly know for outstanding electrical components. I got a 5 year 100k bumper to bumper on it. It's a factory MOPAR warranty not aftermarket. I paid a shit load of money for the truck, by golly I want all my damn gizmos to work for 5 years.

I would highly recommend a extended power train warranty on any diesel truck. These things are way to fucking expensive to fix after warranty is out. If the emmisons, turbo, trans, etc take a dump on you it's stupid money to fix. You don't get out of that bill without PTSD.

It has more the one setting too. I found that out the other day. I always just click the button and turn it "on", but if you hit the button again it switches to Auto? I don't have a clue what the difference is so I need to read too. lol

I'm going ask about buying it later. In just hate to spend X amount of dollars on a warranty that is covered by Ford for the first 3 years. But I agree, these things are not cheap. Can't imagine a repair is either. Buddy of mine bought a CPO BMW 5 series, like a 2010 maybe.. this was a while ago.. maybe 2013. Anyhow, he had 18k in warranty bills when he finally traded it in. Granted that was CPO so it was covered. But damn.
