Well, everyone else has a build thread for their Taco. So why not be like everyone else?

Since the Tacoma doesn't have lockers, I was kind of secretly building my wife's 2014 4Runner TEP into my next vehicle. I figured it was a better platform being a Trail Edition and it was the vehicle we took when the two of us would go camp before we had kids. Due to some life changes, the 4Runner is no longer in the picture.

Enough about the 4Runner, onto the Tacoma!

We moved to Texas in May of 2010. At the time, I drove a 2006 Infiniti G35 that was a source of constant problems. Later that year, and without having full time employment, I traded the G35 in for a brand new 2011 Toyota Tacoma. Having already purchased a pair of boots, going from a sports car to a truck nearly completed my becoming a Texan. Thus, the nickname "Cowboy" was given to the truck.

So, some basics. Most current photo:

Doubtful that I will ever SAS it. I'd rather spend that money on purchasing something that already has a solid axle.

35s also doubtful. I am, however, considering the CMC and fitting 285/70/17s on it. I once told myself that I would never go 285/70/17 because of the CMC and all the TW Toolbags were all about it at the time. I always want function and never to do something just because "it's cool" or "people on the internet are doing it." However, I've lately been thinking that I need a little more height and tires is the logical way to accomplish that. The 265s just look small for the 2.5" lift. I'm also thinking that @Oswego 's UCAs will have to go on about that same time.

Lockers are a dream. We'll see what the future holds for me financially. If I get to keep this truck for the long haul, I just might be able to make that happen; but I'll need a 3rd vehicle to drive while the install happens and for other reasons.

Screw those tards. 285/70/17 isa great tire size. Lets you float over sand and mud easily. Also it corrects your speedometer to the right speed as well in the 2nd gens (not sure if your 2011 is the same).

Will have to see if I have a few pics your rig from the Ozark trip. But I second the idea of lockers; at least a rear locker for now.

One of the Osram headlight bulbs went out over the weekend. I reinstalled the OEM ones that I took out before. They were a decent improvement in visibility over the OEM ones, but I think they should have lasted longer. At just under 2 years, I won't be ordering those again.

I'm just kind of surprised because the OEM ones were Osram too.....Oh well, I'm back to yellow-ish headlights. Doesn't bother me. They still light up the road just fine and match the fog lights.

Also went in to fix a rattle/rumble that was caused by the air intake housing making contact with the metal as it passed through to the fender. Some electrical tape on the metal circle cutout and forced the foam gasket between the housing and the cutout.

I found this article when researching sticking valves. I've had a noise at idle and while accelerating that sounds like my old Isuzu that my dad said had a "sticky valve." (Tap Tap Tap - Away! - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum) So I installed o-rings around the bolt for the sensor as described in the article. I'm not ready to say that it fixed the issue, but I didn't notice it when I took the family out for lunch. It was also raining pretty hard, so I'm not sure I would have noticed it over all of the other ambient noise.

I went ahead and cleaned the MAF sensor since I already had the engine cover off for the o-ring install. It and my filter were pretty dirty, so the filter will be cleaned soon.

I've used these for years and they've replaced a couple that went out with no questions asked. I've been on my latest pair for a few years now and am still really happy with them. They aren't that expensive when you think about high output replacement bulbs that go out every year just past the replacement warranty + your time to swap them out. Also, this is a reputable LED lighting company and not some fly-by-night rando on ebay selling cheap LED headlights.
I believe your truck takes a 9003 bulb but I'd double check and make sure.

I'm going to stick with the OEM ones for now. I also have the RI pods on the bumper that have a low output mode designed for use as driving lights. If I need more light up front while staying street legal I can flip those on.

I'll definitely keep those in mind if/when I do get around to replacing the bulbs again.

Ive had the same luck with Osram in the past in my Tacoma, but still use them over Sylvania.

No idea what Subaru uses for OE but I have yet to change a bulb in that car. Nice having 3-4 years between bulb changes lol

I have been using these LEDs in my Tacoma and 4Runner since June 2018 with great results. My sammich maker really likes the light and pattern they put off.

That's a much better price. Can you get a pic of the beam pattern (like up on a garage/wall)? I like the idea of going LED, but I don't like the idea of spreading so much light that it is blinding to anyone not wearing sunglasses at night.

This is the page in my build that has the info you are looking for. I think you will like them. I do not get any flashes from on coming traffic and my sammich maker really likes them even with her bad night vision.

Do you have to cut/modify back of the lens housing or gromet for those to fit?
