Ok so I guess its time to start a build thread now that I've actually started "building" my runner...

The goal is a DD 4Runner that can handle "moderate" wheeling and camping on the weekends

I searched for 8 months and had to drive 5 hours to pick it up in October of 2009. Here is the only pic I have of it after I brought it home, I pulled into the driveway and got straight to work removing the running boards and inspecting the undercarriage...

I added some TRD stickers for some extra horsepower

I bought it in October of 09 so that Christmas I had a LoadWarrior under the tree, opened and "installed" in under an hour (had to wait for the rest of the family to finish opening presents)

Picked up the spare tire carrier a bit later but no need to show that pic...

I replaced the radiator with a new KOYO to prevent milkshake and b/c I had a very small coolant leak:

Then after I decided on Tundra coils in the front and LC coils in the rear I slowly started buying parts and eventually had everything I needed for the lift:

Installed my Cobra 19DX iii w/ PA speaker under the hood

Drew and I installed the front but we didn't have time to do the rear so I drove around for 2 days with a mean bro rake:

Still have my 85' CJ-7 (seen in background) 3" lift on 33" BFG AT's

Can't wait to see those bigger tires. They'll complete the look and give you some serious offroad ability.

Yeah I'm hoping the guy will ship the one he has either this weekend or next week, but I may wait to mount them b/c I think we're going up to College Station to visit Mallory the weekend of the 17th...figured I'd take one last road trip on my bitch highway tires

I think I just need to tune it or mount the antenna somewhere else...when we were leaving PINS I was receiving so I guess it works but the reception sucks

Hey Mauzer, you got your lower BJ's replaced for free under a recall? My wife drives an 02 4runner sport edition 2wd w/ 120K miles & I was wondering if the recall also applies to the 2wd models. I bought the truck used in 06. Could you please enlighten me alittle about the recall?

No worries, I'm glad you made sure yours was good...failed ball joints are a serious safety hazard

No way the spacers will fit on the 4runner because I have auto hubs. Should work fine on yours since you have normal hubs + ADD.

We still need to do your diff drop too.

Right on, I realized that when I realized I'd left the slide hammer. Should I install the spacers before I get the tires mounted? I've heard some shops won't mess with spacers

I've heard the same thing too, but when I asked Discount Tire about it, they said as long as they aren't the crappy old school spacers that are just a disc with holes in them, they would have no problem with them. I wouldn't trust them with my spacers though. They'd toque the lugs off in a second. Luckily, I don't need a tire shop anymore, but that doesn't really help you any.

If you weren't reusing your rims, I'd say get them mounted and put them on yourself. You could borrow one of my sets of tires if you need to; to keep the spacers away from the idiots. Since I have 2 full sized spares, we'd only have to pull 2 off the 4runner.

what size are your spares?

I may just take them in two at a time in Ang's explorer, that way I can put them on myself and trim whatever needs trimming, etc
