Replacement Brake Pads and Rotors

So here is my dilemma.....

I need to do my pads and rotors now that I am at that magic number for needing brakes. The question I have is should I go OEM or aftermarket?

The choices I have locally are to go with OEM parts from the dealership, pads and new rotors or to go to a performance shop and get Hawk pads and Powerslot rotors.

In terms of price the OEM stuff is a bit more expensive for the pads (rotors are about the same), and for brakes I don't mind paying a bit more for quality stuff.

Question being, what have you guys heard about Hawk and Powerslot for our trucks? I have ran them before on my Acura and they were great for a small car, but do they have the stopping power for a loaded truck wheeling?

Or do I man up, deal with the shipping from the US and go EBC or something from Performance Braking? (the shipping and duty may price this out of my budget though)

Thanks for your input guys.

I'm running EBC - Sean had a warpped one after a while - I think he's doing the powerslot thing.

I had EBC.. had one (or both?) warp after about 20k miles. Not really bad.. probably could have lived with it for another 20k miles. But I did go with PowerStop rotors and pads the second time just to try something different. So far they work great! I towed the trail rig out a few weeks ago and they had great stopping power. So far so good.

I have new OEM rotors and EBC pads. Works great.

I had the bosche rotors and they had way too much play for my liking. I took the tire and hub off and the Bosch's rotor just fell right off! So I took em back and went with OEM rotors.

great, thanks for getting back to me everyone!

Yeah, I have been impressed with the powerslot and Hawk combination in the past but as as I said previously it was on a small car, but good to hear that it works for the trucks as well.

I wish we had a better selection of parts up here, I dont even think I can get my hands on Bosch stuff locally.

I guess tonight its off to the shop to get supplies so that I can get the brakes on this weekend.

Thanks,
Shayne

So I went with the Hawk Pads and Powerslot rotors and it isnt that noticeable of a difference, but I have only put a few miles on them. Before and after the break in period it does make a very noticeable difference though so I'm hoping with putting more miles on will make a difference.

If they don't impress you. You could go out and some Pep Boy pads, and remount your glazed rotors. Use them for about a week and go back - Then you'll like em! lol :)

or spend $2000-2500 and do the Big Brake Kit! :)

They need some time to break in. I bet I put 100 miles on them before I felt it. Also depends on which pads you went with. I went with the most aggressive PowerStop pads.

I went with Ford disc brakes front/rear, they work way better then the stock Tocoma...lol

You just have to wear a skirt when you drive it. Keith likes to pretend he's Scottish when he does. lol

Yep, so any time you wanna borrow a "skirt" just let me know. You will have to let it out in the waist and take a couple of feet off the length..lol

depends.. if you have slotted/drilled rotors a good machine shop will charge $65 to face those rotors. Non-slotted you can have done at most parts stores for under $10 a pop. Now you can only do this so many times, and they will warp faster in the long run. But you can save some coin by turning them.
