I picked up some food grade silica gel packs, so the jerky will have a long shelf life.

I’m currently working on the 6th recipe, it should be ready late in the afternoon, I sent sample bags to school and 4 band directors have already ranked the first of the 3 batches, they were unanimous on particular receipt.

1lb of beef Jerky cost about $6-$7 for meat & seasoning and of course some time.
I know what’s in the Jerky, so I can say it’s not loaded up with MSG like Bucees or commercial Jerky.

I need to get a dehydrator. What is a good one to start with?

Oh wow.. that's much less $$ than I thought it would be. I don't mind doing small batches.

Hold on sir, it's a little bit more complicated than $50, that small unit does quite well, but I rotate the trays every 90min for 8/9 hours, no built in timer.

I would spend a bit more money, double batch size, stronger fan and something with timer to make the time and effort worth it.

good reviews on these

I'm really tempted to buy this, heck of a deal with the SS304 trays.

yeah you probably can't go wrong with one the smaller ones on the upper links, keep in mind if you soak meat for jerky in liquid smoke, you will want to take the dehydrator out to the garage lol

I went with the larger unit because I have been making a lot of jerky lately, the trays after awhile can get petty gummed up, with the SS trays I could hang them on a tree and pressure wash them lol

and after 15lbs of Jerky, this dehydrator will pay for itself.

I could put that stainless unit in the garage where my pups kennel is... he would be going nuts after being locked up with it in the garage. lol.. I'll just do the back covered patio to ease the pain on them. :D
