Shop Air Compressor

Okay, I now have enough air tools to motivate me to buy a compressor for my garage. My thoughts, I want to get a compressor, a dryer and an oiler so that I don't have to go through the crap I've gone though in the past not having the extra bits (as the English guys would say).

Does anyone have any good thoughts on brands or features?

I'd have to say Ingersol twin stage 60-80 gallon. You can use it for anything. I have a small Bostitch compressor mainly for nail guns. I have the Oasis in the truck for air tools. But I want a twin stage IR for the garage, nice and quiet and it has the durability to last a lifetime. Just not cheap at 1100-1300 bucks.

Ouch! I think at this 'stage' I may do this in 'stages' ;)

Well my buddy has the 60 gallon twin stage IR.. its awesome. Its quieter than my little Bostitch compressor. To really get a good compressor you need to have a 220 unit. The 115 volt ones just max out at about 5.5 CFM, which is fine if all you want to run is an impact gun or ratchet. But the rotary air tools (sanders, grinders, drills, air saws,) and paint guns start to really need CFM.

I certainly see your point! I guess I've spent a grand on things that had a much, much shorter life than that IR unit would! :)

Nice find Rob. I'm just not so sure about a single stage.. they are so freaking noisy! I suppose if you could put it outside in the shed and plumb it inside that would be pretty cool.

I wish I had a neighbor I wanted to disturb!!! :)

They are noisy, but not as bad as most and you can still run them on 220v. If you want to talk about nosiy then look at a direct drive compressor, they are ridiculous.
