Well the NightForce scope gets here today and plan is to pick up the rifle on Saturday. The scope is the entry NF 3-10x42 second focal plane. It has some really good reviews for features & construction vs weight with the mountain hunting guys.

I think I'm going to see what I can purchase locally.

Amazon reviews of both the trijicon and truglo are a mixed bag.

Truglo is roughly half the cost, which would help if I have to purchase a sight pusher.

The negative reviews on the trijicon seem to mostly be about amazon sending the wrong item and them being non-returnable. The truglo seems that there is a decent amount where one of the dots won't glow.

My neighbors son bought a new Glock 43x (think that is the one.. small EDC weapon), he added a small red dot (Holosun I believe) and he put Trijicons on it. After about a week he went with the Truglo's. They fit the reddots site view better.

The M&P that has the red dot came with raised tritium night sights. I'm thinking of replacing the ones on the Shield 40, which does not have an optic cut.

10% off and drive to the store to pick up or full price and free shipping. Getting to that store is a pain, so the $10 is probably worth it. Bass Pro is probably a better source than Amazon. Hopefully the stock is somewhat fresh. I'm gonna check the LGS first.

Everything got put together on the Tikka tonight. The bolt is stupid easy to disassemble and modify. I had the new bolt handle on it in five minutes while watching a YouTube video. Hopefully I can get to the range tomorrow to zero and confirm it.

Made it to the range today to put as many rounds as needed to roughly zero the new Tikka. I was not doing my part but the rifle was printing nicely considering the conditions. The range I was at has the benches facing east which sucks to look through the scope with the sun in the same direction. But the rifle was grouping sub moa and usually had 2 out of 3 touching. Now to print it on a heavy boar tonight.

Next week the upgraded trigger spring is going in. The stock trigger (completely new) is good but not the TriggerTech or CMC triggers I am used to now.

so given the story that @Anathollo shared in the bs thread, do y'all keep records of your guns? If not, what would you give an officer if you reported a firearm missing/stolen?

At one point, I had a spreadsheet that I printed off that had the manufacturer, model, caliber and serial number of everything that I owned. It is no longer current and I don't have the file, so I should probably make a new one. Someone once asked me "why do you keep that? If the police ever come to confiscate our guns, you're just giving them a list of everything you have!"

My response was pretty much "I don't think they are coming to take our guns anytime soon. If we ever do get to that point, I'm not giving them this spreadsheet. If I ever have one stolen, I want to be able to provide the serial number and model information for the report."

I don't have a list per say, but I've been meaning to make one for my wife in case anything happens to me. The list would tell her which guns and suppressors are in our trust and which ones aren't. That way she doesn't accidently commit a felony by selling one of my SBR's or suppressors.

But I do have pictures, scanned copies of my gun purchase receipts, scanned copies of my NFA stamps saved on multiple hard drives and cloud services. Part of my homeowners policy includes firearm coverage up to a certain amount, so I need to have documentation of everything I own in case the house burns down.

I had a good tracking sheet with pictures. I need to update it again.

*the pictures to verify condition and accessories (to include those expensive scopes) was recommended to me after a friend lost everything in a house fire.

I have a list with the serial numbers. I need to update it though since I've acquired some more since then. I also have a tendency to hang on to the boxes/cases that they came in which also have a sticker on them with the information.

A fire is what I'm dealing on the loss of one of mine. Private party sale and I can't find the PM from the forum I found the ad on. Never recorded the serial number. Turned in a description to the insurance along with everything else on the list, and now just waiting to hear back.

Did you recover the action from the ashes? That would be a big step in proof of ownership.
