That's Mr Asshole to you
I have done this trail a few times and it is always a great time. Some things to know about trail. The trail is a public road but land on both sides of it is private between the town of Clayton and the fire tower in the National Forest. Once you travel east of the fire tower it is the National Forest and a lot more of the land is public.
The trail has a few technical spots that are a little harder but nothing that is too much for a stock Toyota 4x4 with at least all terrain tires.
The best access point starting from the west that I have found is off Ninepine Rd and the turn off for Clayton Trail is where it begins and that runs into the K Trail. The trail runs east and crosses into Arkansas for a little while.
I have done this trail when its been wet and dry. Wet adds a little more excitement to it if you want a challenge but again nothing that cant be done in a mostly stock Toyota.
Pin striping will happen so know that before you hit the trail
There are several spots on the road that hold water and all seem to have a hard bottom so no worries there. There have been several reports of one of the longer holes being trapped with some metal spikes causing tire damage. An off road club pulled the trap out of the water last year and as of now I have not read any more reports of multiple flat tires from spikes.
Based on my time traveling this road I would strongly recommend bringing at least a large ax but a chainsaw would be better. The reason for this is fallen trees over the road are possible. Me and 1 other guy ran part of this trail a few weeks after an ice storm and the fallen trees were everywhere. You can also see spots along the trail where trees have been cleared.
There are some places near the fire tower that people have camped at and there are some more camping spots east of highway 259 that are dotted along the trail.
Once you travel east of Highway 259 the trail seems a little more maintained and is more of a relaxing drive with great scenery.
There are some trails or county roads that branch off the K Trail that will take you to different places. Most that I have explored normally lead to a black top at some point.
Most towns near by are small country towns that dont have a lot to offer outside of a motel, gas station, or restaurant.
Some random pictures from various places on the trail.
Overall this is real fun trail and area to explore. Just go prepared as you would with any off road trip. Hope this helps any of yall wanting to go explore.
