Wheeling the new Auto's is FAR better than trying to wheel with the six speed, for me anyway. You can control the transmission just like you do with a stick and with the Crawler box that just makes everything better. I'll never wheel a stick again.
HA....see drew, I told you....lol

Instead spending time and money tracking down and fitting a stock short bed on the new truck, I think I'd rather go this route so I could get a fuel cell, roll bar, and chop the frame just beyond where the shackles mount.

There is a guy on TTORA who did that to a new Taco. http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=160142
There's only 1 pic of the bed and from what I can see, I don't like the way he did his at all. I want kinda a hybrid between flat bed and cage.
Good find. Thats not a bad way to go Drew. Better buy a bender, welder etc. Thats some serious fab to get it right.
That's the plan because there's no way I'm paying anyone to do all the fab work. I'd rather spend more time doing it myself and get it exactly how I want it

Its not what I would do either, I merely was pointing out someone who did it and thought you might like to see what they did.

And this is very similar to what I will be building I like almost everything about it, it's clean, it's simple, it looks good, it's functional, and I can build it without a tubing bender/notcher.
