Alright, this will be a long post.
Dead Air Sandman S 30cal Inconel- In 2016ish time frame, I got a Sandman S because everyone on the suppressor forums said it was the best all around can for everything. ALL of those people were wrong as it's a shit can. Do not recommend it at all. It's been sent back to Dead Air once for a rebuild after a baffel strike caused by an out of spec Dead Air brake. The E-Brake helps recoil a bit but not enough to justify the price of it. My disappointment with this can lead me to start following the suppressor industry so I wouldn't buy a shitty can again.
I've taken a bunch of animals with this can over the years but now it just lives on my dedicated .300 BO home defense gun. If I ever have to surrender that gun over to the police for using it, I won't be sad to see it leave or never get it back
Dead Air Mask .22LR can- Good can with no FRP. But it is a heavy sumbitch and a bit of a pain to clean.
CAT Short Round 22LR- In 2023, I got another can as a house build completion gift to myself. I love this can so much as it weighs nothing, has no FRP with amazing sound reduction. Can't recommend it or it's brother, the CAT Big Ben enough.
The CAT Short Round is just a little longer than the Mask but WAY lighter.
CAT Old Dirty Bastard Inconel HUB- In 2024ish time frame, I saved up enough money over a year to buy it. It's an amazing can that performs well on a variety of calibers even though it's made for 7.62x39. Love this can and it's what I hunt with now.
CAT Noah 6mm ARC Inconel HUB- In 2025 I got this can as well that I run mainly on 5.56 uppers. At the time I was going to start getting into the 6ARC platform but have since lost interest in that caliber. It's a great can as well.
Noah on the left and ODB on the right.
Future cans at this time will be a full length Ti can for hunting/max sound suppression, another 5.56 can for a dedicated upper, and another .22LR can as well.
The suppressor industry is changing so fast on a MONTHLY basis with the help of pewscience.com, sophisticated computer flow modeling programs and 3D metal printing. At some point in the near future, we will probably get to the point of Hollywood quiet cans. There have been so many new companies and cans coming out in the past six months that it's getting a bit exhausting trying to keep up with all of them.
The main takeaways you should get from this post are:
1. Do your research, do your research, do your research.
2. Ask end users questions or if you can shoot their cans (don't ask gun store employees. They get kickbacks from selling cans & guns). I've read about cans that are great on sound suppression, then when I went to look at it in person I was like this is so damn heavy, I don't want to lug this around or have it on the end of a gun barrel.
3. This is a lifetime purchase for you, so don't let $400-$600 more sway you from buying a better can. Save up for it if you have to and buy once, cry once or you'll end up with a can that just sits in the safe that you don't use because you're so disappointed with it.
