Wheel Question?

Spacer question for the truck gurus, i want to run Mickey Thompson 17X9 0mm offset with 5" backspacing on my 2009 4x4 double cab with a 3" Icon lift and Total Chaos UCA and was told by Total Chaos that for these rims to work i need about a 1/4" spacer, would the Spidertraxx 1.25" be too much? or would they work? I want to run a Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radial in 285/70/17.

The ideal backspacing is 4.5" for 285/70. Thats what all the guys are running. If you run that backspacing then you won't need the spacers at all. Most guys on here are running TC UCA's and 4.5" backspaced after market rims.

Just run the spider trax, they will be fine. I'm running them and so are a bunch of other guys.

yeah I'm running the spacers as well and they're great, but if you get the right backspacing then you won't need to spend the 200$ for them.

Depends on the off-set of your aftermarket rim. I have 17x9 Enduros and IIRC they have a 5" backspacing. (looks like my memory isn't as bad as I thought... Summit Racing says the same http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KMD-12279060700/) I tried to run my Spidertrax spacers but they will not allow the tire to turn without SERIOUS rubbing.. I'm talking rip off the flare turning a corner rubbing. Spacers on a stock rim are fine, but be careful trying them with an aftermarket wheel.

One more thing, why did they say you needed to run a 1/4" spacer? Was it to clear the UCA or the brake caliper?

You shouldn't need any spacers for that set up, any 17" rim has enough room to clear the UCA and the caliper can be ground down sufficiently as to not need the spacer.

Tommy want wingy..
I pretty sure the 17x9 wheels will work unless the casting on the inner side of the wheel contacts the caliper.

And grinding the calipers is very easy, just don't grind too much. I ground about 1/32" off mine (just enough to remove the lettering in the face of the caliper).

There is plenty of clearance.

well i went back to the drawing board and started looking at what people are running and also what fit by the numbers and here is my short list in order(top to bottom)

1. Pro Comp Xtreme Alloys Series 7089 (Black) (avalible in 16" and 17")
2. American Racing ATX Mojave (17" Only)
3. American Racing Chambers (16" Only)

I have a preference to the 17" rim size but would run these as tire options.

1. 285/70/17
2. 285/75/16

I Do have one question about the Mojave rims is it possible to run them without the center cap? I like logo free on everything, unless there paying me to run them ;P

So whats the verdict? and thanks everyone for all your help with this build and all my lists and newbie questions.

I think they are all great choices! Regarding the center cap, you'll find most run with out except when they go to the mall. I also saw someone that cut the center cap to be near flush with the wheel - it looked very good IMO!

GOOD JOB!
