Linked or Leaf Springs

Dude, the Auto is SOOO much better for what you will be doing with your truck. With the V6 and SC you will plenty of power plus with the Auto you only have 2 pedels to worry about.
I don't like offroading in an auto because it's harder to manage wheel speed. The only time having a manual has sucked is when trying to climb stuff slowly and even then it's not so bad. Having a crawl bow will solve that though.

Well look who saw the light, what sort of axle do you plan to use? also as for leafs vs links leaf spring with panard vs 3-link/4link is going to be about the same handeing and flex wise. Personally I'm going with long ass leafs vs the linked suspesion just more bang for the buck. Links are great if you can afford the inital expense plus the time to properly adjust the system. This would be a much better question on RockSoildToys.com or Pirate4x4.com.
I've been surfing Rock solid. I'd probably want to use a Toyota front axle since they usually have a better turning radius than Dana.

Oh, big money. Gonna have to get a custom housing for that bad boy as well as custom shafts. Not something I would recommend simply because when you break a custom length axle shaft then thou art screwed until you can procure a new custom shaft.

New to all this shit... Why can't I use an existing Toyota front axel?

No drivers drop yota axles exist from the factory they are all custom built units (your current t-case is driver drop), problem #2 is width your WMS to WMS on the front axle will need to be at least 65" to match the rear (narrow front = shitty all round performance) The closest you could get would be a landcruiser 80 series axle at 63" WMS to WMS but those are rare/expensive plus they are passenger drop. If you were to find one then it would be a suitable axle with IFS hubs or spacers to increased width but you would either need to "flip" the axle where you cut the knuckle balls off and rotate them 180 degrees then reweld them and flip your axle over and now you've got driver drop this is extremely difficult and should not be attempted without a jig, or get a transfer case that has a passenger side forward output like the yota gear driven cases

Link it Drew. Cam was trying to get me to link mine when my axle project began. If it wasnt for the extra money for coilovers, fuel cell etc I would have done it. One thing leads to ten other things. You need a fuel cell because the links will hit the stock fuel tank. I hate this sport.:o

Then the question 3 link or 4 link or even better radius arms (I really like the idea of using radius arms) then do you want coilovers, coil and shock, or air shocks. Do you wanna crawl, or go fast, or both. You really need to limit your options some just pick something and say this is what I'm doing, they can all be made to perform on par with eachother it's just a matter of which one you want to go with.

Yeah, it might be nice to have a bigger/ dual tank anyway.

I was thinking 3 link coilover

You need to get on Pirate4x4 and talk to a guy screen name is boogerweldz, and faux x 4. They really know their shit when it comes to 3-links. Also talk to DickFoster on rocksolid as I've heard his truck handles like a sports car with his radius arm setup.

It would be a single tank (one big fuel cell). When I cage my truck and go to a fuel cell I will order it in a 25 or a 32 gallon.

You should see some of the comp buggies coming thru lately. A few of the guys are going to run in the Ultra 4 desert racing class. They have air shocks now and we are working on some designs to let them crawl and go fast with bypasses/coilovers.

Custom housings are not as expensive as you think. I agree that custom shafts can get expensive but if you buy good parts then that wont be your weak link.

x2, i have always dreamed to link my rear, but SUA is waaay cheaper, and you dont have to completely lose your entire bed...i would link it for a designated track/race truck

I've not seen a custom yota front axle cost less than 3 grand all said and done, namely cause the only company making the custom width ones are diamond housings, then you have to get a third member plus gears plus locker, then there are the custom shafts, longfields as those are the only ones that hold up, then brakes then highsteer. The shit adds up quickly

True. But when your modding a 20K+ truck thats part of it. Thats why the smart guys beat up the older Tacos. Im not one of the smart guys either Randy:)

The only real problem is that the tail housing on the Tacoma tranny isn't a separate piece. I'll have to replace the whole tranny, but that will still be cheaper than buying a 4x4. Too bad x-runners are 5 lug or I would do it and make sure I had a good bro lean, lol.

UHmmmmm.... The tail housing on the automatic Tacoma IS a seperate unit that comes off and can be changed.

Wheeling the new Auto's is FAR better than trying to wheel with the six speed, for me anyway. You can control the transmission just like you do with a stick and with the Crawler box that just makes everything better. I'll never wheel a stick again.
