UCA`s Unibol Noises

I've been running the Total Chaos LT kit for almost a decade on my truck. When I bought my set the guys there told me it was the first kit sold east of Arizona. I do get some squeaking from the uni balls every now and then. Mainly after a good rinse down like you had said. All I've ever used is a few drops of motor oil monthly or if they start to squeak. Mine have over 40k miles on them and not much of that very easy and really don't have any signs of wear. If your All-Pro set is wearing out that fast, I'd have to suggest to swap over to Total Chaos or Camburg/ICON (no experience with them though). You get what you pay for on suspension products and buying a pair of cheap-o's expecting failure doesn't sound like a good plan. UCA failure goes real bad real fast and never happens at a time when its "safe". Check gun shops and lock-smiths for graphite lube, but most hardware stores carry it around here. I've never thought of using it to lube them up and I have a tube laying around, may do that next time to test it out.

Right there! Also, do the Murphy cup! Take a 3" ABS plumbing cap ($3-
$4US at Home Improvement store) cut it down to about 1" tall and then put a bunch of dry graphite on the top of the uniball - could even spay some of the Teflon spay in there first - then seal the uniball up by RTVing the cup to the top of the UCA. It is not a cure all and it won't protect the underside, but gravity will be your friend there! You could always thread a little screw on the top of it to allow you to put more in when you need to. - Good Luck!!!

That will be done to mine before this winter. If I knock one off in the snow then oh well. Ill buy a couple. I bought rubber plumbing caps this winter but never messed around with them when I realized I couldn't just clamp them on.

I'm no fan of All Pro but I will say they use good uniballs from what I have read. I actually just purchased some stainless FK balls (same manufacturer AP uses) to replace the cheap chrome ones TC uses.

My TC's with chrome balls after about 9 months / 10,000 miles

This is what I will be using as lube from now on.

The ones in my A/P UCAs failed in about 12 months.

Were they FK's?

*prays they aren't*

Don't know - they're in storage - I will check. I wouldn't get nervous. Just treat them well and see what happens.

TC balls don't say anything.

The FK's are all stamped

Sucks if you only got a year out of them when beaten on if they are FK's. Are their any other manufacturers? I would imagine their have to be.

Those things look like they were rode hard and put up wet their whole life, did they ever see lubrication or a cleaning? Not trying to be an asshole or get on your ass, like I said, a lil dab of motor oil occasionally and mine are looking like this after 40k+ miles and they were installed in May of 2006.

I'll have to pop them off some day to roll them and see what the race area looks like but everything you can see from full compression is still pristine. I do try and take real good care of them and wash my truck regularly and lube them. This was one of the biggest single investments I've done to my truck and I do what I can to make it last.

I cleaned them weekly in the winter and after every trip offroad. I lubed them pretty much all the time and I only heard them squeak a couple times after a full day in the trails getting them wet and muddy. Like I said I saw rust on them within the first week of installation. I am also in NJ and your in TX so the weather is a little different here. My truck gets a fairly regular dose of salt for 2-3 months out of the year.

Sadly I placed an order with AP last night......couldn't find any other vendor who has what I want and I do not have the equipment/skills to produce what I need.

U bolt flip. I guess I could of done it myself, but probably would of cost me more then theirs.

Hey, I want to do a u bolt flip. I planned to buy the u-bolts and make the top plates. I measured the axle tubes and got 3 1/8". Do 3" round bend u bolts fit? The next size up is 3.5" and that's obviously way too big.

Yeah 3" fit, they are snug but its all good. I think I got mine from front range for pretty Cheep and then just went to vatozone and bought a Cheep 3@block lift for longer ubolts because of my Dakars.

Yeah, I'll probably just order some hardened, round bend, u bolts from an online hardware store and make a top plate in the shop real quick.

Yeah there is nothing to them, just a piece of 1/2" steel with 4 holes around the edges and one in the middle for centering.

I was thinking about just using 1/4" but boxing it in (kind of like the stock one but upside down). Plus a few drain holes of course.

Sorry about the thread jack, Thomas!
