Started doing some repair work on a friend's Jeep today. The 4WD actuator is messed up on his YJ(?). So while he is on the road trucking I am going to get it pulled into the garage and fixed so he can sell it. It is actually nice to work on something that isn't mine.

Those vacuum actuators suck to deal with no real permenant easy fix for them

It does appear to be kind of a weird part/placement but not horrible so far. Guess I will find out once the parts get here from Rock Auto. It cannot be any worse than rebuilding a couple of transfer cases.

No its just a spider web of vacuum lines that must all be hooked up and sealed or the actuator won't function plus the lines are easily damaged due to their location. All the local guys either switched over to a posi lock or just swapped over to an older high pinion D39/44 with manual hubs and no vacuum disconnect

Swapped out the vacuum actuator on my buddy's Jeep the other day. It was surprisingly easy - as if they knew it was going to break on a regular basis. Although working on his Jeep motivated me to getting back to my 4Runner so hopefully I'll get the clutch issue straightened out this weekend.

Since I'm likely to get a new frame someday, I just bent mine back & welded in some straps behind them

After looking at Craig's frame, he will likely be needing a new one too lol He had the holes in the frame right where the catalytic converter was on the exhaust header. The gussets didn't take too long but running a bead down the side would have been much faster

Wife called earlier today, she was at some sub committee meeting downtown and her can would not start nor would it turn off the dash lights. Lit up like a Christmas tree. So I take off from work, swing by the house to grab some tools and a jump box. Also had to get gas. 45 miles later I'm where she is. Throw the jump box on and it fires right up. I give her the truck and I drive her car back to work... About 42 miles to get back. Along the way I stop and buy a new battery and swap it. Total time out of the office.. 2 hours 7 minutes. Not too bad. Would have been quicker but guy at parts store gave me the wrong battery the first time. :). Sadly I did not buy a Platinum.

I don't know to be honest. I tried to buy a Duralast Platinum (AGM tech) but they only one they had had the terminals on the wrong side. So I had to take it back and get the Duralast Gold. I think we'll only have the car another year or so and we'll trade it in so it should be fine.

Today, I was waiting in the service line and some douche canoe wearing an UT t shirt at the Honda dealer hit me from behind and left the bolt impression from his license plate on my rear bumper, I was in the car when it happen, cussed his ass out and walked away before I thought doing the Ray Rice move on that dumb ass, not worth going to jail. blood pressure was up there, the guy said he would do what ever to fix it, all I asked the service manger to charge him just for some touch up paint. I was to nice, told the service manger to tell the guy after I left to tell him I just found out my grand mother died 2hrs before this, which was BS, she died a few months ago, but hell I hope that guy feels like a jackass now.

Wait... What does your wife's cans not starting up have to do with a battery? Can you jump start a woman's cans in Austin without getting in trouble?

Four hours later and I finally finished wiring up $40 ebay foglights on my nephews Xterra. Between figuring out what my brother tried to do when he tried installing them to showing my nephew how to wire stuff and teach him about the different parts in the engine bay (he just got this car and his drivers license). I ended up redoing all the connections in the wiring harness that Mr. Chinese provided in the kit. But the foglights actually put out a decent amount of light which surprised me. I told him if his car burns down it's not my fault. lol

As long as you didn't use a 40 amp fuse and 16 ga wire.. should be fine. :)
