Drove over to College Station this past weekend and had one of Robs buddies who owns an automotive repair shop do a transmission flush and fill on the Taco. He had a new machine from BG Fluids that was damn impressive! At first he ran some cleaner through it and then 16 quarts of synthetic BG fluid. The sight glass was a perfect light pink! Took it for a test drive and damn.. I could tell an immediate difference. Sharper shifts, into reverse is instant. I have 95k miles on the Taco and this was its first trans flush. Figure if Toyota tells us to go 100k miles on that dino fluid they put in the trans from the factory this stuff out to last at least that long! So... if you are in need of a trans flush. Go visit Asher Automotive... have him give you a ride in his 700+ horsepower Tundra while you are there.

Also, on the ride home I noticed trans temps about 10 degrees cooler.

Well I got in a trial period and only paid for fluid. But it was half the price of a Toyota transflush with fluid that it way better. I don't know the final price but I'm betting it's still cheaper than a Toyota flush.

Basically I paid for fluid. 16 quarts plus the additive.

Yeah I picked up an OEM 6 speed FJ cruiser differential tube. Since they are AWD they don't have a front ADD actuator so now I'll have no electronics involved in the 4wd of the truck. Now if somebody would come out with manual hubs I'd be set :D

No the case is still part time so it will be 2wd until I shift into 4 wheel. The new Fj diff tube was still cheaper than a new Tacoma actuator by about 50 bucks plus it's more reliable IMO

Sounds like a win/ win to me then. I wonder how long the FJ parts will be around then; might have to get buddied up to a few FJ guys and harvest some donor parts.

That was my thoughts exactly. I'll report back when I finish the swap and do a full writeup with part numbers and any gas mileage changes

I will check with Asher and see what standard pricing will be. He was demoing it with the rep on mine and Sean's so we did get a deal. I am sure it will be reasonable.

I have been debating getting the transmission flushed on my Tacoma. It was last done at 100k miles and it is now at 250k miles.

My old Yota service manager told me to cut all of Toyota's Mileage/dates for fluids by 50% if you tow or wheel hard. Said he did his Tundy every 50k and it had 100k fluids. I followed suite and did mine around 50 or 60k. Could of been them just trying to make an extra buck or trying to help me out. I error-ed on the side of caution.

Had I known that it was not Synthetic fluid in the trans from the factory I would have changed it sooner. I planned to change it at 75k miles anyhow, but I didn't around to it until now. :(

I did use it for towing for a few years and have ran it pretty hard. I should probably get the transmission serviced sooner than later then.

That's Mr Asshole to you
Got some swanky new shift knobs. They are from Ellis Precision Ellis Precision
Feel like they were a good deal since it was part of a group buy over on T4r. Just had to wait a few months for the GB to finish and for them to be made. Machined aluminum and they feel very nice.

Joel does some good work. I wish they would do a anodized matte red.
